And he had already eaten before I got there! But Mom was so fabulous at meeting his demands, and I loved being able to capture the beauty and intimacy with this family. Capturing candid, raw emotion is what I really love about my job, and it doesn’t get more natural than nursing a baby. It’s what we’re meant to do. Mr. Theodore Salvatore was almost two months old for this session, and I couldn’t get enough of his chunky baby toes! Generally I don’t like feet, but there is just something about those wittle baby feet. :) These photos are not exactly what we were expecting, but we are very pleased with how they turned out. They tell Theodore’s story well, and I’m so happy his photos will be cherished and looked back on with laughter.

Cromwell Valley Park Maternity Photos - Amanda & Chris http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/4/cromwell-valley-park-maternity-photos---amanda-chris I’m so happy I FINALLY got to do this maternity session with these two! Amanda had envisioned a winter wonderland maternity session, and I fell in love with the idea too. But with our winter this year, or lack thereof, I was starting to worry that Baby Girl would arrive before we even got to do the session! It was almost mid-March and still no snow, so we decided for a spring session instead, hoping for warmer weather and pretty blooms. Then surprise! Mother Nature graced us with 7 inches of snow a couple days before our session. So this is our chilly spring maternity session, with some leftover snow and no blooms. But that doesn’t matter with these two and this beautiful baby bump. Amanda is absolutely radiant, and Chris has a happy glow about him, with a smile that never seemed to fade during our session. This little princess already has him wrapped around her tiny finger! Baby Girl is definitely so spoiled already, with an abundance of love from her parents and family. I cannot wait to meet her in a few weeks!! :)

Baltimore Baby Photography - Little Oliver Erick http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/3/baltimore-baby-photography---little-oliver-erick Little Oliver Erick makes a very cute fox, don’t you think? :) Look at that face, and those eyes! I dare you to try and say "no" to this face. Momma got this outfit to go along with the nursery theme, and Oliver had a good ol’ time wearing it. He was about 2 1/2 months old for our session, and I loved his fuzzy baby penguin hair. It reminded me of my own baby boy’s hair when it was growing in. I also enjoyed watching how much this family likes to snuggle together. It was so sweet! And Oliver has some older fur siblings, one of whom followed us around and tried to make the photo session about him. Can you tell who it was?

Baltimore Baby Photography - Little Kali Kay http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/3/baltimore-baby-photography---little-kali-kay This happy little lady is just too stinking cute! With the bubble drool face and tiny bunny slippers, I can’t stand it! Those slippers, by the way, turned out to be a little tricky to put on. It took team work, but it was worth it! Miss Kali Kay was about 2 1/2 months old for our session. She was wide-eyed and ready for her close-up when I arrived. She loved playtime and seemed pretty good at tummy time, but I think mealtime was her favorite. That, and gazing at her loving parents. :)

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby Miles Joseph http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/3/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-miles-joseph My, oh, my! This wittle baby, with those fuzzy bear ears, and that head of hair, and those eye lashes! You’re too much, baby Miles Joseph. :) I really like how our mossy tree stump setup turned out, with the simple woodsy, mountain theme of the nursery. The green color of the walls turned out very nice. Mom was telling me how they went through SO many greens till they found the right one. And I really like it. I kind of love it actually. It’s a subdued green, yet it adds a perfect pop of color. Anyway, back to baby Miles. He kept us entertained with his numerous facial expressions. Miles also has a four-legged sister, Norah, who is absolutely precious. She was very protective of her baby brother when he was crying, and her Momma when she was nursing Miles. It was very sweet to see.

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby James Walter http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/2/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-james-walter Mr. James Walter, the handsome little Irishman! James’ Dad moved here from Ireland, so they wanted to get an authentic looking Irish setup during our session. They requested this adorable outfit from my collection, and the sheep wool to go with it. It doesn’t really get more Irish than that! Although we joked about adding a bottle of Irish whiskey as a prop, we didn’t have one handy. But I love how his head ended up resting on his little fist. He looks like a minature version of The Thinker! And if I may say so myself, I think we got some pretty touching family photos as well. I think there are a few that are bound to melt your hearts. :) Sláinte!

Baltimore NICU Photography - Little Valentines ♥ http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/2/baltimore-nicu-photography---little-valentines Here are the little Valentines from my NICU session! We had heart decorations to use for this session, with a bunch of cute sayings on them. Most of the babies this time were pretty big and close to going home. One lucky love muffin was going home the same day! I always love seeing the NICU babies, and seeing them so big and doing well makes my heart happy. Especially the ones who I have taken photos of before, when they were teeny tiny, and I get to see them again so big and chunky. A couple of these babies were here when Santa came to visit, and seeing them now and how much they have grown is amazing and such a blessing. I have to also mention what a privilege it is when I see parents doing skin-to-skin with their babies. It's so important and crucial to help the babies thrive, to help with Mom's milk production, to help with bonding, etc. So it's a real privilege to be able to document it and capture the special moment for the families. There was definitely lots of joy and love in the air as I was walking around the NICU. It was lovely for celebrating Baby's first Valentine's Day. ♥

Thanks so much to the March of Dimes, the incredible NICU staff, and volunteers for helping with this photo session. :)

Howard County Newborn Photography - Baby Grayson Knox http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/2/howard-county-newborn-photography---baby-grayson-knox Look at this peanut on his little “my size” bear rug, with all those back wrinkles! Oh my goodness! And don’t fret, no bears were harmed in the making of this faux rug. It was the perfect addition for the woodsy, bear-themed nursery. Although, we did have a teensy accident on it, so it’s missing from the rest of the nursery photos. But who cares, when you have such a handsome little man and adorable family to look at! :) Mom and Dad make the perfect team together, and big sister Stella has lots of love for her baby brother.

Harford County Newborn Photography - Baby Abigail Aileen http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/1/harford-county-newborn-photography---baby-abigail-aileen This session was very entertaining. I probably spent half the time laughing! Little Abigail Aileen was almost a month old for this lifestyle session, but still a pretty sleepy baby. She was asleep when I arrived, and we managed to keep her asleep for one totally adorable setup. She definitely did not like being curled up anymore, and she fought me every time I tried to wrap her. She always found a way to kick her feet out, and get one little hand up on her cheek, which made for some super cute photos. She was even super cute when she gave me the stink eye. And I can't forget to mention that sweet little belly button! :) Most babies still have their umbilical cord for my sessions, so this was a treat. We managed to capture a few baby smiles as well. Abigail's older sister had a blast running around and being silly, while we were silly in return, trying to tickle her and make photo taking fun. She did enjoy tickling baby Abigail's toes, and giving her a few kisses. Then there were Abigail's two older, four-legged brothers. They were very endearing and followed us everywhere, but were really camera shy. When we finally managed to get the whole family up on the bed together, the fur babies didn't seem too thrilled. What do you think? Do they look bored to you?

Baltimore NICU Photography - Santa! http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/12/baltimore-nicu-photography---santa The photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus visiting the NICU are here, the most wonderful time of the year! Although, it probably doesn’t seem like the most wonderful time of the year to some of these families. Some of these babies will be home for Christmas, while others may have to spend a couple more months in the NICU. Having a baby, or babies, in the NICU at any time is difficult, especially during the holidays. For these families, Santa’s visit brings joy and allows them to celebrate their baby’s first Christmas with the jolly man in the red suit, something that may otherwise not be possible. Santa brought tins with delicious caramel popcorn for the families this year. We also had little present costumes for the babies, making them the cutest little Christmas presents I have ever seen. :)

For a special treat, we had a sweet NICU family return from last year. Santa’s visit this year was just one day short of a year ago, when Mom got to hold her baby boy for the very first time, in Santa’s presence. He is now one and totally adorable! I, of course, had my husband bring our own little NICU graduates again, and they had reactions completely different from last year. Rosie, who flirted up a storm with Santa last year, wanted nothing to do with him. While Aedan, who sobbed uncontrollably last year, was best buds with Santa.

I hope you keep all of these sweet angels and their families in your thoughts this Christmas. Again, special thanks goes to Traffic Jam Jimmy and Fox 45 News, the March of Dimes, and the amazing NICU staff and volunteers at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center for making this festive event possible.

Anne Arundel County Newborn Photography - Baby Abigail Rae http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/12/anne-arundel-county-newborn-photography---baby-abigail-rae This little princess arrived a week before Thanksgiving, and she is just the sweetest thing. Look at that full head of fluffy hair! And those eyelashes are sure to attract some sweethearts, far in the future (if Daddy ever allows it). Miss Abigail Rae is such a perfect lady too, always crossing her legs. Her Mom told me she does it all the time. So precious! For her Christmas photos, I hardly had to pose her at all. All I did was uncurl her fingers against her cheek. It's clear to see that this baby girl already has Daddy wrapped around her tiny finger, which I had to showcase at the end. :)

Waller’s Tree Farm Christmas Photos - Baby Easton’s Family http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/11/waller-s-tree-farm-christmas-photos---baby-easton-s-family Baby Easton is so big now, and still such a cutie! It’s been about seven months since I took his newborn photos, and it was a pleasure to work with this family again. They are super sweet people! During our session, Easton was fascinated with touching the Christmas trees and laces on his adorable little boots. It was so much fun watching Easton’s many facial expressions too. I especially love when I was walking behind them, and Easton seems to be rather annoyed with me. He has his hand up in the air and a scowl on his face. I wish I knew what he was thinking! I’ll let you all have fun and caption that one for yourselves. :)

Baltimore NICU Photography - Halloween 2017 http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/11/baltimore-nicu-photography---halloween-2017 Here they are, tiny babies wearing some of the tiniest costumes you'll ever see! Get ready for the cuteness overload! Like all of my NICU sessions, I had been looking forward to this one, because Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. I was so thrilled that we were able to dress up almost all of the babies this year. In what's probably one of the most stressful times in these parents' lives, they could have a little fun to ease the pain and temporarily forget their troubles. Every parent should be able to dress their baby up for Halloween, if they want to. :) A huge thanks to the March of Dimes, NICU staff, and volunteers for working hard to create most of these little costumes!

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby Declan Michael http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/11/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-declan-michael This sweet boy was a pleasure to work with. The interaction with him and his parents was so dear, and the connection I saw between him and his Momma melted my heart. Whenever little Declan Michael was unhappy, his Mom was able to sooth him almost instantly. Then he would just gaze up at her lovingly. It was so touching. And the pup seemed to be adjusting quite nicely to being the guardian of his now family of three humans. :)

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby Ryker Joseph http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/11/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-ryker-joseph Look at this peanut! Mr. Ryker Joseph looks like a perfect little gentleman, doesn't he? He is just too cute, and look at that smile. I have to mention his wild hair as well. It wanted to stick up in all different directions, and it took some time for us to smooth it out. Towards the end, Ryker was wide awake and became quite the roly-poly in his crib. We'd put him on one side for photos, then he'd just roll right over to the other side. I think it was his way of trying to kick me out. :) Ryker is a lucky boy to have his older, four-legged siblings watch over him. A brother and a sister, who followed us around to make sure their little brother was okay. We had a good laugh in the nursery, when Ryker's big brother wanted to be up in the chair also, to keep a close eye on him.

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Twins Matilda & Cole http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/10/baltimore-newborn-photography---twins-matilda-cole Oh my goodness, how adorable are these two?! I had been super excited about this session since the moment it was booked. These are the first twins I’ve photographed since my own, and I couldn’t get some of these super-cute sleepy poses with mine because they were too old when we brought them home from the hospital. Little Matilda Jean and Cole Oliver enjoyed snuggling with each other so much. I felt bad taking them away from each other after the poses. They were like two puzzle pieces never meant to be separated. Is that cheesy?? Haha, I don’t care, it’s true! :) But they both have two very different personalities. Mr. Cole was just snoozing away peacefully, while Matilda was a little bit fussy and busy practicing some dramatic expressions. The one of her smiling has got to be the biggest newborn smile I have ever captured. It's almost as if she was laughing, because she did it a few times in a row. Miss Matilda was a little chow hound too. We had to take an extra long feeding break because she wanted to eat twice as much as her brother. And I could not get over the charm of this old home. The stained glass and wood floors, among other things, are original to the home. The What to Do When You're having two book was also a favorite of mine while I was pregnant. It's a great read for future twin Moms!

Baltimore Family Photography - Our Littles are Two!! ♥ http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/9/baltimore-family-photography---our-littles-are-two We finally took two-year portraits with our littles a few weeks ago, and I am so excited to share this blog post with you!! This happens to be my first post with a mix of film and digital photos. I am very happy to bring film back into my life! I had such a hard time choosing my favorites to share with you, so I apologize for sharing so many. I will also try my best to make this post short and sweet. :)

I had been putting these portraits off, waiting for the Queen Anne's Lace to cover the fields. However, the weather was not on our side this summer, and there wasn't much Queen Anne's Lace. The fields were still lovely and we had such a perfect day for these photos. We had so much fun and saw lots of pretty and interesting things while out and about. We started bright and early, as soon as the littles woke up. Then we went back out at sunset. It took about 2 1/2 hours total to get all of these shots. An awesome benefit to taking photos of one's own family! These two did fabulous and cooperated very well. I don't think either of them cried once. They were having too much fun!

These two love each other so much, it melts my heart to watch them walk around holding hands, picking flowers, and kissing. They do these things on a daily basis, so before they outgrow it, I had to capture these sweet moments. They LOVE getting dressed up too. They were both so excited to wear these outfits. Aedan loved playing with his suspenders and sticking his thumbs through them. And oh my gosh, the shoes! These children are crazy about their shoes and always want to wear them.

When we moved on, Rosie was fascinated to read about the Winged Monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. It was her first time hearing part of the story, but now she wants to hear a little each day. Aedan was kind of interested in learning to fish with Daddy, but they didn't catch anything. After trying with their "fishing poles" first, Daddy tried to catch one harmlessly using a small net, but the fish were all hiding by that point.

After "fishing," there was some Ring Around the Rosie fun. Aedan and Rosie both enjoy Ring Around the Rosie, perhaps because it has Rosie's name in it, but they DO NOT like being dirty. So it was just too funny when they were playing in the woods and squatted down instead of falling down, so they wouldn't get dirty.

I thought it was super adorable at the very end, when Aedan had Rosie by the hand and took off running. He just took off through the grass, pulling her right behind him. It was as if they were trying to make a getaway together, with Rosie never dropping her flowers along the way.

We also had to incorporate their beloved Pooh characters. Their Pooh Bear and Tigger have been with them since they were born, and we took photos with them each week in the NICU for size comparison. Aedan had fun making Tigger bounce through the field, because that's what Tiggers do best. And Rosie liked giving Pooh big bear hugs. It's amazing to see how big Rosie and Aedan are now, when they were once smaller than their Pooh and Tigger. For being 26-week, two-pound preemies with many obstacles and delays, we are truly blessed and thankful to see them grow into such perfect children. They have outgrown all of their preemie complications and are now caught up to where they should be. :)

Special thanks goes to my wonderful husband, for willingly participating and helping to capture these photos of our precious children. ♥

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby Pierce McDaniel http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/9/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-pierce-mcdaniel Little Pierce McDaniel was totally zonked out when I arrived, so I got straight to work and we set up the chair shot first. I had seen the old chair in a photo that I was sent before our session, and I knew right away that I wanted to incorporate it. Afterwards, I was told that the chair actually holds a lot of meaning because it had belonged to a beloved family member. I love being able to use different home items and heirlooms when I do these sessions, for this reason. And because little Pierce looked so adorable sleeping on it! He had the cutest patch of hair that made a swirl at the top of his forehead. His big brother was adorable too. He was always ready with a big, cheesy grin, before I even put my camera to my face. We had a little fun exchanging some jokes, and he told me one that I thought was pretty good: "What do you call a pony with a sore throat? A little hoarse." :)
