Most of you know that I love classic, vintage things. So naturally, I love the nostalgic feel of sink bath photos. We did sink bath photos with my own little ones when they could sit up by themselves, and I cherish them so much. For little Miss Eden Elizabeth, we missed the window for the sleepy posed photos, but seriously, I think these may be way cuter! :) Eden's facial expressions are so precious, and they kept us amused and laughing the whole time. I enjoyed sharing this intimate family experience, and I am looking forward to my next sink bath session, whenever that may be!

Fell's Point Photography - Freya & Steve's Family http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/7/fells-point-photography---freya-steve-s-family This early morning session was a hot one! It was our first extreme heat code red of the year, and I was already sweating by 7:30 a.m. But the heat actually wasn't that bad in the shadows, with the breeze by the water. We had a good time walking around Fell's Point, with the fun cobblestone roads and cute shops. Although, looking for ants was definitely more interesting to the young explorer in our group. For some added excitement, I almost got bit by a small dog that was tied up on the sidewalk. Its owner had stepped into a local shop, and the dog just lunged at me as we were walking by. The poor thing was probably miserable and scared. Thankfully, I was leading the way and the children nor anyone else got hurt. We passed the dog again later, walking with its owner, and it seemed perfectly fine. Anyway, the little ones were troopers throughout the whole session, so we popped inside a local store and finished our session with yummy frozen treats! When we were about to head our separate ways, I ended up having a pretty intense conversation with a little mister, about whether the animal in the window was a cow or a duck. I still say it was a duck. :)

Baltimore Baby Photography - Little Pierce Dalton http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/7/baltimore-baby-photography---little-pierce-dalton Little Pierce was such a happy baby for our session. He actually embraced the camera and seemed to enjoy having his photo taken. Mr. Pierce Dalton is about nine months old now, and loves playing with all of his fun toys, especially his choo choo. He was chasing it all around! He is getting to be such a big boy and starting to pull himself up to stand. Watch out Mom and Dad, this boy is going to be walking in no time and chasing those fur siblings! While we were outside, I'm pretty sure Pierce had his first taste of grass. But I don't think he was a fan, haha! And how cute is that moon balloon night light with the bear?! Adorable!

Baltimore NICU Photography - Father's Day 2018 http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/6/baltimore-nicu-photography---fathers-day-2018 Here are all the NICU miracles from my Father’s Day session! They are such strong little fighters! I always giggle a little whenever I see a baby trying to pull off his or her nasal cannula, because my own son was constantly guilty of this. I enjoyed switching from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day this year. I’ve mentioned before how I love showcasing sweet daddy moments. We are all so used to seeing mommas with their babies, but it’s important to me to capture the daddies as well. Daddies are full of love for their little bundles of joy too, and offer lots of support to make a strong parenting team. So it’s important to also give them recognition, especially in traumatic and difficult situations, like being in a NICU. My husband was my rock during our NICU stay, and he still is, so I see you Dads. And I hope you all had a very lovely Father’s Day. :)

As always, special thanks goes to the March of Dimes and incredible NICU staff for helping with this photo session.

Historic Hampton Family Photography - Hadley is Six Months! http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/6/historic-hampton-family-photography---hadley-is-six-months Oh my goodness, I'm going to just go straight to the dress. This family session was to celebrate little Hadley turning six months old, and I can't think of a better outfit than what she had on. This super adorable baby dress was custom made from her daddy's wedding shirt. I had no idea this was a thing! It's absolutely perfect with the Peter Pan collar and buttons down the back. It will be a treasured item to keep forever, I'm sure. Grandma, Mom, and baby Hadley had matching sandals as well. Too cute you guys! Oh, you don't want to miss those chunky baby thighs in the bloomer shot either. I can never get enough of the chunky baby wrinkles! And I was told that Hadley's uncle recently got engaged to his beautiful lady, so congratulations to them! :)

Montgomery County Newborn Photography - Baby Abigail Bryan http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/6/montgomery-county-newborn-photography---baby-abigail-bryan This couple was so incredibly sweet and kind, that I totally didn't mind the longer drive for this session with them and their charming Abigail Bryan. I love Bryan for her middle name, by the way, which is a special family name. Little Miss Abby was just over a month old for our session, and starting the joyful stage of smiling. Look at that face! :) And the lace dress is darling. Rose is the four-legged fur baby, who likes to always be near little Abby. It's a nice bonus when I get to capture family photos with the fur babies. Then, of course, my own fur baby is always jealous when I get home. We ventured outside at the end of our session for one of Daddy's favorite activities, carrying Abigail around in her sling. They sat and enjoyed some time on their deck, where I heard about the special bracelet Mom received from Dad when Abigail was born. Then I snapped a few more photos of this family in front of their new home, before being welcomed to their fridge for a cold lemon water to take on my journey home. Such sweet people!

Sherwood Gardens Photography - Mike & Stephanie's Family http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/5/sherwood-gardens-photography---mike-stephanies-family This was my first time taking photos at Sherwood Gardens, and it is quite the hidden gem. It’s a small, historic area, tucked away from the everyday hustle and bustle of the city. It’s a nice little place to have a family picnic, and they accept donations to keep the gardens clean and beautiful. It was so lovely to photograph this beautiful family there, just at the end of peak tulip bloom. We enjoyed the many colors and sweet smells. One of the sitting areas has a bench with a chess board painted on it. Just bring chess pieces with you and a friend, and you'll be set for a couple hours. We all thought this was pretty neat. But the youngest of the bunch much preferred to wander off freely, and chase after the balls being tossed around by other visitors. One and a half is such a fun age. :) I can’t wait to see how she’s grown for my next session with this family!

Carroll County Newborn Photography - Baby Olivia Kate http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/5/carroll-county-newborn-photography---baby-olivia-kate Little Miss Olivia Kate is such a sweetie pie! The floral headband and roses made her look like a little garden fairy goddess. They went well with the floral theme of the nursery, which is totally gorgeous. I really loved the light lilac color and the flower details. I see a lot of pink nurseries for my newborn girls, but I don’t see a lot of purple. Purple has always been a favorite color of mine. Most of you know, I am a fan of the more genuine, candid photos, rather than the posed ones. I like being able to tell a story with my photos. I also like to showcase the dads at my photo sessions, because they don’t always get the credit they deserve. Miss Olivia needed a lot of feeding breaks during our session, and I loved how comforting Dad was by rocking her in his arms, while she was waiting to be fed. :) And I think Olivia’s older brother likes having a baby sister. It might make him miss his crib a tad, but I think he enjoys his big boy bed much more. I had to include one of my favorite outtakes for the final family photos, because . . . well, that's life. You can’t ask a two-year-old to take a family photo and expect it to go as planned. But after a few tries and playing the cards right, you can end up with an adorable family photo.

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby Ayla Victoria http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/5/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-ayla-victoria Oh my gosh you guys, I wanted to take this little princess home with me so bad! But these two are so absolutely smitten with their little blessing, that I would not have gotten very far. Not at all. Miss Ayla Victoria was wide awake when I arrived, but once I got her to sleep, she was out for the whole session. Except for a brief moment when we placed her in the milk bath. She woke right up and we thought it wasn't going to work, but she just fell back to sleep. And she made the sweetest little sleep sounds! I probably can’t describe them well, but they were like little humming sounds when she exhaled. So, so cute! My little boy used to make the same sounds when he was a baby. I also have to mention the totally adorable, and 100% genuine, Father-Daughter photo at the end. We were finished with our session and I had turned my camera off to pack it away, then this happened. Of course, I turned my camera back on and snapped this photo. I cannot wait to snuggle this little nugget again, and I am extremely happy for my dear friends. :)

Baltimore Baby Photography - Little Theodore Salvatore http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/4/baltimore-baby-photography---little-theodore-salvatore I should just call this a nursing session, because that’s pretty much what it was, haha! From the moment I arrived, all little Teddy wanted to do was eat. And he had already eaten before I got there! But Mom was so fabulous at meeting his demands, and I loved being able to capture the beauty and intimacy with this family. Capturing candid, raw emotion is what I really love about my job, and it doesn’t get more natural than nursing a baby. It’s what we’re meant to do. Mr. Theodore Salvatore was almost two months old for this session, and I couldn’t get enough of his chunky baby toes! Generally I don’t like feet, but there is just something about those wittle baby feet. :) These photos are not exactly what we were expecting, but we are very pleased with how they turned out. They tell Theodore’s story well, and I’m so happy his photos will be cherished and looked back on with laughter.

Cromwell Valley Park Maternity Photos - Amanda & Chris http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/4/cromwell-valley-park-maternity-photos---amanda-chris I’m so happy I FINALLY got to do this maternity session with these two! Amanda had envisioned a winter wonderland maternity session, and I fell in love with the idea too. But with our winter this year, or lack thereof, I was starting to worry that Baby Girl would arrive before we even got to do the session! It was almost mid-March and still no snow, so we decided for a spring session instead, hoping for warmer weather and pretty blooms. Then surprise! Mother Nature graced us with 7 inches of snow a couple days before our session. So this is our chilly spring maternity session, with some leftover snow and no blooms. But that doesn’t matter with these two and this beautiful baby bump. Amanda is absolutely radiant, and Chris has a happy glow about him, with a smile that never seemed to fade during our session. This little princess already has him wrapped around her tiny finger! Baby Girl is definitely so spoiled already, with an abundance of love from her parents and family. I cannot wait to meet her in a few weeks!! :)

Baltimore Baby Photography - Little Oliver Erick http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/3/baltimore-baby-photography---little-oliver-erick Little Oliver Erick makes a very cute fox, don’t you think? :) Look at that face, and those eyes! I dare you to try and say "no" to this face. Momma got this outfit to go along with the nursery theme, and Oliver had a good ol’ time wearing it. He was about 2 1/2 months old for our session, and I loved his fuzzy baby penguin hair. It reminded me of my own baby boy’s hair when it was growing in. I also enjoyed watching how much this family likes to snuggle together. It was so sweet! And Oliver has some older fur siblings, one of whom followed us around and tried to make the photo session about him. Can you tell who it was?

Baltimore Baby Photography - Little Kali Kay http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/3/baltimore-baby-photography---little-kali-kay This happy little lady is just too stinking cute! With the bubble drool face and tiny bunny slippers, I can’t stand it! Those slippers, by the way, turned out to be a little tricky to put on. It took team work, but it was worth it! Miss Kali Kay was about 2 1/2 months old for our session. She was wide-eyed and ready for her close-up when I arrived. She loved playtime and seemed pretty good at tummy time, but I think mealtime was her favorite. That, and gazing at her loving parents. :)

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby Miles Joseph http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/3/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-miles-joseph My, oh, my! This wittle baby, with those fuzzy bear ears, and that head of hair, and those eye lashes! You’re too much, baby Miles Joseph. :) I really like how our mossy tree stump setup turned out, with the simple woodsy, mountain theme of the nursery. The green color of the walls turned out very nice. Mom was telling me how they went through SO many greens till they found the right one. And I really like it. I kind of love it actually. It’s a subdued green, yet it adds a perfect pop of color. Anyway, back to baby Miles. He kept us entertained with his numerous facial expressions. Miles also has a four-legged sister, Norah, who is absolutely precious. She was very protective of her baby brother when he was crying, and her Momma when she was nursing Miles. It was very sweet to see.

Baltimore Newborn Photography - Baby James Walter http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/2/baltimore-newborn-photography---baby-james-walter Mr. James Walter, the handsome little Irishman! James’ Dad moved here from Ireland, so they wanted to get an authentic looking Irish setup during our session. They requested this adorable outfit from my collection, and the sheep wool to go with it. It doesn’t really get more Irish than that! Although we joked about adding a bottle of Irish whiskey as a prop, we didn’t have one handy. But I love how his head ended up resting on his little fist. He looks like a minature version of The Thinker! And if I may say so myself, I think we got some pretty touching family photos as well. I think there are a few that are bound to melt your hearts. :) Sláinte!

Baltimore NICU Photography - Little Valentines ♥ http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/2/baltimore-nicu-photography---little-valentines Here are the little Valentines from my NICU session! We had heart decorations to use for this session, with a bunch of cute sayings on them. Most of the babies this time were pretty big and close to going home. One lucky love muffin was going home the same day! I always love seeing the NICU babies, and seeing them so big and doing well makes my heart happy. Especially the ones who I have taken photos of before, when they were teeny tiny, and I get to see them again so big and chunky. A couple of these babies were here when Santa came to visit, and seeing them now and how much they have grown is amazing and such a blessing. I have to also mention what a privilege it is when I see parents doing skin-to-skin with their babies. It's so important and crucial to help the babies thrive, to help with Mom's milk production, to help with bonding, etc. So it's a real privilege to be able to document it and capture the special moment for the families. There was definitely lots of joy and love in the air as I was walking around the NICU. It was lovely for celebrating Baby's first Valentine's Day. ♥

Thanks so much to the March of Dimes, the incredible NICU staff, and volunteers for helping with this photo session. :)

Howard County Newborn Photography - Baby Grayson Knox http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/2/howard-county-newborn-photography---baby-grayson-knox Look at this peanut on his little “my size” bear rug, with all those back wrinkles! Oh my goodness! And don’t fret, no bears were harmed in the making of this faux rug. It was the perfect addition for the woodsy, bear-themed nursery. Although, we did have a teensy accident on it, so it’s missing from the rest of the nursery photos. But who cares, when you have such a handsome little man and adorable family to look at! :) Mom and Dad make the perfect team together, and big sister Stella has lots of love for her baby brother.

Harford County Newborn Photography - Baby Abigail Aileen http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2018/1/harford-county-newborn-photography---baby-abigail-aileen This session was very entertaining. I probably spent half the time laughing! Little Abigail Aileen was almost a month old for this lifestyle session, but still a pretty sleepy baby. She was asleep when I arrived, and we managed to keep her asleep for one totally adorable setup. She definitely did not like being curled up anymore, and she fought me every time I tried to wrap her. She always found a way to kick her feet out, and get one little hand up on her cheek, which made for some super cute photos. She was even super cute when she gave me the stink eye. And I can't forget to mention that sweet little belly button! :) Most babies still have their umbilical cord for my sessions, so this was a treat. We managed to capture a few baby smiles as well. Abigail's older sister had a blast running around and being silly, while we were silly in return, trying to tickle her and make photo taking fun. She did enjoy tickling baby Abigail's toes, and giving her a few kisses. Then there were Abigail's two older, four-legged brothers. They were very endearing and followed us everywhere, but were really camera shy. When we finally managed to get the whole family up on the bed together, the fur babies didn't seem too thrilled. What do you think? Do they look bored to you?

Baltimore NICU Photography - Santa! http://www.heathersiverd.com/blog/2017/12/baltimore-nicu-photography---santa The photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus visiting the NICU are here, the most wonderful time of the year! Although, it probably doesn’t seem like the most wonderful time of the year to some of these families. Some of these babies will be home for Christmas, while others may have to spend a couple more months in the NICU. Having a baby, or babies, in the NICU at any time is difficult, especially during the holidays. For these families, Santa’s visit brings joy and allows them to celebrate their baby’s first Christmas with the jolly man in the red suit, something that may otherwise not be possible. Santa brought tins with delicious caramel popcorn for the families this year. We also had little present costumes for the babies, making them the cutest little Christmas presents I have ever seen. :)

For a special treat, we had a sweet NICU family return from last year. Santa’s visit this year was just one day short of a year ago, when Mom got to hold her baby boy for the very first time, in Santa’s presence. He is now one and totally adorable! I, of course, had my husband bring our own little NICU graduates again, and they had reactions completely different from last year. Rosie, who flirted up a storm with Santa last year, wanted nothing to do with him. While Aedan, who sobbed uncontrollably last year, was best buds with Santa.

I hope you keep all of these sweet angels and their families in your thoughts this Christmas. Again, special thanks goes to Traffic Jam Jimmy and Fox 45 News, the March of Dimes, and the amazing NICU staff and volunteers at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center for making this festive event possible.
