It's been a while! I decided to lay low for a bit and take a break once I found out I was pregnant with these two. It was my first pregnancy and considered high-risk because of there being twins. I also had been scheduled to go on bed rest at the end of April for 8 weeks, in an effort to prevent premature labor. However, someone had different plans. I had gone to the hospital for a routine ultrasound a few days before I was to start bed rest, and I ended up being admitted because I was 3 cm dilated. I was having preterm labor and couldn't feel the contractions. I was able to keep the babies in for a little while longer, but Rosaleen was breech and began to kick her way out. So after three very overwhelming and terrifying days, our babies were delivered by emergency C-section at only 26 weeks and 1 day. Little Rosie weighed 2 lbs. and Aedan weighed 2 lbs. 4 oz. We were told that their chance of survival was 70%, so every day that we got to spend in the NICU to watch their progress was a blessing. They were in the NICU for a total of 57 days, and then sent to another hospital for transitional care for 60 days. Our sweet, little miracle babies finally came home towards the end of August.
They are now 5 months old and both doing great. Rosie is now 9 lbs. 9 oz., and Aedan is 10 lbs. 12 oz. So big! Although they are 5 months old, we have to adjust their age based on their 8/2 due date for weight gain and milestones. They are only 8 weeks old adjusted to their due date, and their weight gain and other developmental traits are right on track with where they should be. It's amazing to look back at how tiny they were in the NICU, when they could wear their Daddy's ring on their little arms. :)
I hope you enjoy these photos of our little ones! My husband took the photos with me in them. Not too shabby, right? I may have to put him to work more often! We also had the fabulous Emily Chastain come and take photos of us. I included our favorite family photo by her at the bottom.
