It's the most wonderful time of the year for families at my favorite NICU. Santa and Mrs. Claus made their annual stop to visit the smallest babies and bring some holiday cheer.
Having to leave a baby in the NICU is always painful and heartbreaking, but even more so during the holidays. I often feel the sadness and shed a tear or two when going back to take NICU photos throughout the year. But when Santa visits, I feel the sadness lift just a little bit, and see smiles that are otherwise rarely seen.
The families are always so grateful to have Santa visit their babies in the NICU, because otherwise, seeing Santa would not be possible for them. And Santa always loves to see the older siblings who are there to see him too. He had a funny joke for them this year, which actually made me laugh more than them. One of the kiddos was talking about music and Santa asked, "Did you know you can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish?" :)
Please keep these sweet miracle babies and their families in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season. ♥
As always, special thanks goes to Traffic Jam Jimmy and Fox 45 News, the March of Dimes, and the amazing NICU staff and volunteers for this festive event.
